There is no doubt about it the Apprenticeship Levy is here and here to stay. The SFA haven’t made life easy for providers and employer/providers with the window of opportunity to apply for the Register of Apprentice Training Providers (RoATP) only being some 17 working days until it closes at 1700hrs on Friday 25th November.
Times are most definetly changing but are they for the best? Only time will tell. My personal view presently is that the changes are a step in the right direction but only if indeed embraced by employers and training providers alike. I see the introduction of the levy as an opportunity for employers to engage their staff further and provide more constructive and purposeful talent plans to meet not only their needs an employer but also meeting customers needs and as improtantly developing the skills of thier staff. Whether this is acheived through self delivery model, outsourcing thier provision or indeed a combination of both there are definite gains to be made for all.
Irrespective of the model an employer choses there is a considerable amount of management support requried to ensure that guidelines, rules, standards etc. are complied with from the outset.
