SIA Compliant CCTV (PSS) Operators Training Course Type: Security

SIA Compliant CCTV Operator Course 

 

Introduction 

 

This course is designed in accordance with the Security Industry Authority's Specification for Core Competency Training and Qualifications for CCTV Operators (Public Space Surveillance), BS 7958: 1999 CCTV Management and Operation and the Data Protection Act CCTV Code of Practice. 

 

The successful achievement of this course is a requirement for security officers intending to apply for an SIA Licence to Practice.

Programme Overview

 

Duration:  32 hours of delivered learning over a four day period or weekends and/or  

                     Evenings.

 

Assessments:

 

Unit 2 & Unit 3 (22 hours)

 

Unit 1:  Working in the Private Security Industry (10 hours)   

 

This Unit is classroom based and provides learners with sufficient knowledge to undertake employment as a CCTV Operator.

 

·         Know the purpose and main features of the private security industry.

·         Understand the legislation that is relevant to people working in the private security industry

·         Understand relevant aspects of health and safety in the workplace

·         Know how to apply the principals of fire safety

·         Know how to deal with non-fire related-emergencies

·         Understand the principals of effective communication and customer care in the private security industry

 

Unit 2: Working as a CCTV Operator

 

·         Understand CCTV Codes of Practice, Operational Procedures and Guidelines

·         Understand relevant Legislation and how it impacts on CCTV operations

·         Understand the Roles and Responsibilities of the CCTV Operator and other CCTV staff

·         Understand the characteristics of a CCTV system

·         Understand how to make effective use of CCTV equipment

·         Understand Emergency Procedures in the CCTV Control Room

 

Unit 3:  Practical Operation of CCTV Equipment

 

The practical use by operators of the equipment found in CCTV Public Space Surveillance control room is an important factor that will decide the overall success of the CCTV system.

 

This unit aims to introduce learners to the ‘live’ CCTV environment and will build on the knowledge gained in Unit 2.

 

On completion of this unit, learners should:

 

·         Be able to operate CCTV Equipment

·         Be able to demonstrate operational use of a CCTV system
