Introduction

This programme aims to increase personal safety awareness in vulnerable sectors of the community – whether this community is a school, college, workplaces, prisons or community centres.

The qualification can be an effective vehicle for communicating personal safety in relation to the Crime and Disorder Act and to help in the provision of a supportive and safe working environment.

Benefits

The programme is also an increasingly relevant life skill and contributes to the need for both corporate and individual safety responsibility within a local community or group.

The value of the generic skills developed is life long and provides a platform for further lifelong learning.

Programme Overview

Duration: 30 hours of delivered learning over a four day period or weekends and/or
evenings.

Assessment: Externally set and assessed multiple choice assessment, together with completing
A pre course self assessment and post programme review with action planning.

The qualification is a single unit through which learners will gain the skills and knowledge to:

• Raise their personal safety awareness following a review and appraisal of their work and social routines
• Understand issues relating to the fear of crime and personal actions, which can be taken to control any worry or concern
• Recognise the importance of travel safety
• Be able to take actions which promote safety in conflict situations
• Use personal and protective equipment
• Record incidents and occurrences
• Provide information to organisations which supports the analysis of personal safety concerns
• Take care of possessions and property
• Recognise the importance of Health and Safety at Work and the contribution to the safety of themselves and those they work with
• Assess the risks related to work routines and personal safety matters
