Obtaining your SIA Licence?

One of the conditions in starting a career within the security industry is that you have to have a Security Industry Authority (SIA) Licence to Practice.
Who are the SIA?
The Security Industry Authority known as the SIA is the regulatory body for the private security industry in all four countries of the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland).
It’s powers come from the Private Security Industry Act 2001. The Act introduced the mandatory licensing of all Door Supervisors, contracted Security Officers and CCTV Operators, further information is available at the SIA's website.
How do I get my SIA Licence?
Getting your SIA Licence is as simple as saying 1, 2!!
1. In order to obtain your SIA licence you will need to complete an approved SIA course and achieve an SIA recognised Level 2 qualification.
We can help you achieve this by attending one of our SIA Licence to Practice Courses in Door Supervision, Security Guarding or CCTV Operators.
All these courses last for 4 days and you will undergo two assessments for each one. The Door Supervision and the Security Guarding two assessments are through multiple choice examinations and CCTV Operators have one multiple choice exam and one practical CCTV Assessment.
To attend the courses you are required to be aged 18 years or older, be able to speak and understand English, bring along four passport size photos, be able to produce specific identity documents . such as valid passport, signed photo UK driving licence, UK birth certificate or certified copy issued within 12 months of birth, but not a photocopy more details of these documents are available from the SIA website or by telephoning one of our support staff on 08451 300 974 or 01292 470 123.
2. You do not have to wait until you get your certificate to apply for your licence. We would recommend that you request your licence from the SIA by visiting the SIA website or by telephoning the SIA 0844 892 1025 between 8:00am to 8:00pm Monday to Friday before you attend your training course. Alternatively you can collect an SIA Application Pack from your tutor whilst on your training course.
To obtain your licence you do not have to wait until you get your certificate, once you have your result from us, which normally takes up to a maximum of 10 working days from completion of your training course you can send off your completed SIA Licence Pack.
Whilst on the course if you wish, your tutor can provide you with support in completing the SIA Application Form.
